Aunt Ninapod got to spend the evening with Chuchu and Popo while mom and dad had a night off. Oh, the fun we had! There was a brief moment of panic when Chuchu found that the opening beneath the partition separating my balcony from my neighbor's was just big enough to fit through, and I thought I had lost him forever. But he came back after a minute and I made sure to barricade the Escape. Inside, Chuchu favored the shelter of the inside of the kotatsu, while Popo and I curled up on the floor. Aunt Ninapod likes her nephews so much!

First gardenias of summer
I have caught the bug - the gardening bug, that is! Now I don't walk past a flower shop without oohing and ahhing over the peonies and lilies. Ai and I each bought a gardnia bush and are eagerly awaiting the fragrant blooms.

Identical cousins?
Everyone tells me, my sister and my two cousins Madoka and Midori that we resemble each other. I take that as a most excellent compliment!
Peace and yakitori
It's the 50th annual St. Mary's Bazaar! We enjoyed tons of food from around the world, excellent live music from student bands, saw lots of people and participated in a Scandinavian drinking song where we downed a shot of aquavit and a mini fish sandwich. This happy St. Mary's dad was very cooperative with my photo request.
coming home to the hyatt
ahh, the Hyatt Regency Macau. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Thou art 5-star, with room service and air conditioning, a big beautiful room and view of the ocean, breakfast buffet with strong hot coffee (actually all of Macau had wickedly good coffee) and the biggest outdoor pool in Macau, a sauna, delicious restaurants, and the nicest staff waiting on me hand and foot. During the day I had the whole of Macau to explore and discover, and then I had you waiting for me at the end of the day to come back to. Have I found heaven??

bright shining lights
Macau is very definitely a major gambling spot. But the glitzy, modern, $$$ culture seems to be in very good harmony with the historical and natural culture of Macau too. I liked the balance of of the business and aesthetics.

looks like modern art, but isn't
These were 'signals' that are put on the top of the lighthouse in Macau to warn citizens of typhoons and other natural disasters. Each shape indicates a different level of danger. They looked like museum pieces to me!

Lotus blooms
Many beautiful displays of flora in Macau - these purple lotuses were at the rooftop garden of the Macau Museum.

The Military Club
Amazing buildings like this are all throughout Macau. At night the pillars are lit up and look like something out of a movie. The main dining room is one of the nicest I have ever seen, with tall, tall ceilings and colonial-style decorations. With the delicious dinner we had the Portughese white wine that was served on the night when Macau was handed back over to China.
A night at the races
Macau has Asia's only dog race stadium. 4 times a week, anyone can go and bet on the superfast greyhounds. i wagered on "Cat Master" who made a good effort and came in second. don't blink, or you'll miss them.
Living on the edge
just another day in macau sitting at the edge of the Macau Tower, some 250 meters high!
Morning exercises
In a Chinese-style garden in the middle of the city, the locals gather to practice Tai Chi, sing and play music, and channel Li Mu Bai from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
Fresh juice, anyone?
Fresh squeezed kiwi juice looks delicious and refreshing on a balmy Macau day out sightseeing.
Macau!!
Oh what a trip it was!! This is from my first day, on the island of Taipa. Macau is made up of Macau (a peninsula, attached to mainland china), and the islands of Taipa and Coloane.
Macau is beautiful!
Macau is beautiful!
